Chelsea are set to snub their chance to bring Nathan Ake back to the club during the January transfer window. The central defender left Stamford Bridge for Bournemouth for half that fee back in 2017, and is now set to continue his stay on the south coast.

Ake made 17 first-team appearances for the Blues between 2012 and 2017, seven of which came in the Premier League.

In contrast, the 24-year-old didn’t miss a game in the league in each of the last two full seasons at Dean Court, finding his feet under Eddie Howe.
The news that Chelsea had the chance to bring the defender back to the club would likely have tempted Frank Lampard into making a move, which now looks unlikely.

The Sun have claimed that with Andreas Christensen set to stay in west London, the clause for Ake will go unused before it expires at the end of the month.
Denmark international Christensen was close to a move to Italian giants AC Milan after slipping behind Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger in the pecking order, but Lampard has since ruled that out.

He said after the 3-0 win over Burnley: “Yes, I can rule it out [a move to AC Milan].

“I like Andreas as a player. I’ve always liked him. I used to train with him and saw the talent coming through.
